Bob Satterwhite of the Bull Shoals Bass Hole Lodge will once again be imparting his sage wisdom upon us this season.  We will try to give a couple of reports a week if possible. To get us started this season this is his first report.

Bull Shoals Lake has been around 10′ high with surface temps in the 40’s.  With the air temps like this the biggest challenge is staying warm.

BASS:  You can catch good fish shallow with square bills, jigs, swimbaits and plastics.  For faster action hit every point with jerk baits and steep banks with a Wiggle Wart. If you find bait balls get out the spoons and load the boat!

Crappie:  Find wood in 20 to 40 feet of water and try jigs and spoons. The best bet is a slip bobber, jig, and minnow.

Walleye:  Get Ready!!! We are close to spawning time. They are going to pile up in creeks so work secondary points with the jerk baits, cranks, crawler rigs and swimbaits.

Catfish:  All along the channels your best bet is jug lines. 20 to 50 feet of water and bait up with shad, crawlers, cutbait and liver.

Bob’s sage advice:

Right now is the time to make sure that all of your gear is in top shape.  New line is a great place to start.  Lube boats, trailers and reels. Have your gear oil changed and impellar checked. Don’t foget rod guides and batteries. Most of all to get YOU ready exercise and physicals are important.  Also, getting your mind right is essential for success.  Remember, the best way to catch a big fish is GO FISHING!!!
